Facts About Scholarships
Chapter 1, pg. 11
The number of full baseball scholarships that each school can distribute is strictly limited. Here are the maximum allotments, even though many schools are limited to far less either by their conference or their own administration’s limitations.

Division Full Scholarships
NCAA D-I 11.7
NCAA D-I Ivy & Patriot Leagues 0
NCAA D-II 9
NCAA D-III 0
NAIA 12
NJCAA D-I 24
NJCAA D-II 24
NJCAA D-III 0

Each coach decides how to award his scholarship allotment. It makes the most sense to divide the allotment into several partial scholarships as opposed to giving only a few players full scholarships.

Also, realize that the scholarships are not just earmarked for incoming freshmen, but are used for all players on the team. This may include as many as 35 sophomore, juniors, seniors, and fifth-year players. As a result, thousands of outstanding high school players are never offered even partial scholarships. Keep in mind that scholarship awards are on a year-to-year basis. While a coach cannot guarantee you will receive the same award in future years, it is normal practice that it will be renewed at the same level.

D-III and D-I Ivy League and Patriot League schools do not offer any athletic scholarships. Military academies like Air Force, West Point, Navy, and the Coast Guard are tuition-free; however admission requires a congressional recommendation.

NCAA Clearinghouse
Chapter 7, pg. 94
The NCAA is the most powerful governing body for college baseball. It represents three separate divisions (I, II, and III) featuring 777 four-year schools.

You must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse after your junior year if you want to be considered an eligible recruit. This lets colleges know that you have met all their academic requirements.

To register, call 888-388-9748 to receive your free copy of the NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete. This guide provides detailed information about the NCAA’s requirements and contains a Student Release Form. Mail or fax the white copy of the form to the Clearinghouse with the $27 registration fee. Give the yellow and pink copies of the form to your guidance counselor, who will send the yellow copy along with your transcript to the Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse will send your eligibility status to any NCAA D-I or D-II school that requests it.
