Answers to common questions about the Designated Hitter:

Can it be stored outside?
Yes. It is completely weatherproof and harsh weather will not damage it.

Is it portable?
Very much so. The Pro model weighs only 37 pounds and the Youth model weighs slightly less. All DH models have a low center of gravity, in the knee area, and are easily picked up and moved around the field.

If used indoors, will it mark or damage floors?
No. The base is made of recycled tire rubber, and the bolts at the base are recessed so that they never come in contact with the surface they are placed on. The DH is ideal for indoor or outdoor use.

Will it tip over during use?
No. During testing it was hit repeatedly with thousands of throws exceeding 100 mph. All the DH does is wobble momentarily, quickly assuming its normal upright stance. The only time you might have problems during outdoor use is if there is a very strong wind blowing. In this case, sand bags can be placed on the DH base, or stakes can be driven through the pre-made holes in the base.

DH Batting Figure colors What colors does it come in?
A red top/gray bottom, blue top/gray bottom, or all gray.

What sizes does it come in?
The PRO is 5'9" -- YOUTH is 5'2"

What about ricochets and deflected pitches?
Due to the flat surface and beveled edges of the DH, these have been virtually eliminated. In fact, deflections that do occur are very similar in their action as to what might occur when a ball hits a live batter during a game.

What ages can use the DH?
The DH can be used by pitchers and catchers at any level of the game, fastpitch softball or baseball. Younger players will find either the Youth or Pro sizes appropriate; high school, college, and professional teams/players should use the Pro model.

Besides pitching, how else can it be used?
Catchers can use the DH by placing it in the batter's box during:
  1) Bunt coverage drills
  2) Working on pop times
  3) While practicing throwing to 1B, 2B, and 3B
  4) Pitch-outs.
It is preferable to have a DH in the box for these drills rather than a player, so that a player's practice time can be more effectively used elsewhere.

DH Inside Pitch Target What is the Inside Pitch Target (IPT)?
This is a heavy-duty piece of brightly colored cord that hangs straight down from the DH's elbow and serves as a target for pitchers to practice locating inside, jamming pitches. Prior to the DH and the IPT, there has not been a safe and effective way for pitchers to practice and develop confidence throwing this important pitch.

What's the Location Mechanics (LM) booklet that comes with the DH?
The bonus LM booklet contains a number of useful tools and concepts for pitchers and coaches alike. Things like the causes of poor control (physical and mental), evaluating pitching mechanics for flaws that may be causing poor control, how to make key mechanical adjustments, and drills to improve and maintain good control. It serves as a training manual to help users get the most out of their DH. We include it for free (it sells separately for $20) with the purchase of a DH.

A Dozen Reasons to buy the Designated Hitter:

1)  The DH helps pitchers quickly develop confidence facing different kinds of batters - LH, RH tall or short - it can even "crowd the plate."

2)  Provides pitchers a unique and highly effective way to actually practice jamming hitters with the Inside Pitch Attachment (IPA). No risk of injury with live batters standing in.

3)  Is virtually indestructible - your hardest thrower can't dent or tip it over. Will provide many YEARS of use, indoors and out.

4)  Is 3 inches thick, UV ray/weather resistant; constructed with "space-age" plastic polymers, no moving parts.

5)  Is easily transportable (weighs less than 40 pounds) from indoors to anywhere on the field.

6)  Available in two sizes, making practice with the DH specific for any age group and skill level. PRO - 5'9"; YOUTH - 5'2". Measurement includes the base, and is to the top of the cap.

7)  Is engineered with a flat surface and smooth, beveled edges that minimize pitch deflections.

8)  Has a Limited Lifetime Warranty - should any damage occur under normal use, we will immediately send a replacement DH.
