What I've Learned From Baseball by Coach John Peter
The game of baseball is infinitely more complex than most give it credit for. Most that I have learned about baseball is common sense…but each lesson took someone with more common sense than I to point it out.
Coaching Tips
  1. Teach catchers to call the game. Why? If you are a teacher, teach…or don’t expect much when you truly need them to think things through for themselves.

  2. Make practice fun! Why…because the world doesn’t need any more soccer players…And soccer is just people being bored in a hundred languages…worldwide!

Forgotten Nickname: The Philadelphia Blue Jays
Philadelphia Blue Jays jersey Philadelphia’s National League baseball team has been known as the Phillies since 1890. But there was a nearly forgotten aberration in the 1940’s when new owner Bob Carpenter held a contest among fans to pick a new nickname for the team. The fans chose Blue Jays, and for two seasons that’s the Phillies were known as. Wearing uniforms featuring a Blue Jay logo, the team went 61-92 in 1944. But their luck further soured in 1945, and Philadelphia finished their brief flirtation with the Blue Jays nickname with a 46-108 record.

The Phillies, however, weren’t the only “old school” National League team to undergo a name change during their franchise history. In 1953 the Cincinnati Reds demonstrated the anti-communism fervor of the times by changing their name to the Cincinnati Red Legs. It wasn't until 1959 that Cincy fans succeeded in having the name changed back to the Reds.
