What I've Learned From Baseball by Coach John Peter
The game of baseball is infinitely more complex than most give it credit for. Most that I have learned about baseball is common sense.but each lesson took someone with more common sense than I to point it out.
Coaching
Time everything. Why? players like to compete and achieve goals they will improve when they push themselves more.
Pitching
Don't try and jam hitters when you are behind in the count. Why? Because if you make a mistake you could leave a fat strike over the plate and the hitter can pull it to his natural field. Or you could hit the batter.
Hitting
A successful hitter must get his hands above the ball. Hands (and in some smaller measure, the front knee) start the swing.
Defense
Most College scholarship money goes to players who play up the middle.and starting pitchers. (Did you know there are only 11.7 scholarships given in Division 1 Colleges?)
Scouts and Scouting
The best scout I ever met still passed on Derek Jeter.

Baseball's Believe It or Not
The Yankees were playing the Blue Jays in Toronto's Exhibition Stadium on August 4, 1983 when New York outfielder Dave Winfield accidentally killed a seagull with a warm-up toss before the fifth inning. After hitting a home run to lead the Yankees to a 3-1 victory, Winfield was taken to the Ontario Provincial Police Station and charged with cruelty to animals. He was forced to post a $500 bond before being released. Although charges were dropped the next day, the incident provoked outpourings of criticism from Canadian fans and environmental groups and Winfield was despised in the city. Nine years later, however, Winfield went from villain to hero when he signed a one-year free agent contract with the Jays and led them to their first World Championship. Winfield's two-out, two-run double in the 11th inning was the difference in Game 6 of the 1992 World Series as Toronto defeated the Atlanta Braves four games to two.
