Baserunning & Sliding
[box cover description]
Johnigan explains the importance of good baserunning and proper sliding technique and has drills of good baserunning and proper sliding demonstrated. He starts with home to first base and getting out of the box, running in a straight line, focusing on the front of the base, pumping the arms, turns at bases and the curve, leaning into the turn, and hitting the inside of the base. He also discusses Figure 4, head first and hook slides.
Coach JP Says:
BASERUNNING
The only reason I have ever figured as to why youth baseball coaches don't seem to use baserunning as a big time offensive weapon is that they do not know how to teach it.
In this tape, any coach can learn to confidently teach these skills!
Watch as Baylor University assistant coach Steve Johnigan starts you at home plate and works his way around all the bases, starting with proper steps & proper routes out of the batter's box, how to hit the first base bag and take time-saving turns heading to the next base(s).
Leads are properly demonstrated for both leagues that allow and do NOT allow leading off and stealing.
SLIDING
Here you will learn how to overcome the biggest reasons that kids do not slide well.lack of technique, lack of practice and fear of getting hurt!
Watch as a team of youth players have a blast while learning the basic figure-4 slide, the hookslide/slide by's for avoiding tag plays (smartly modified for youth players) and the headfirst slide.complete with coaching tips to reduce, eliminate or hopefully avoid player injury.
The skills are taught in progression and from the beginning so any age can learn.
The drills contain so much fun that your players should learn this important skill very quickly!
DRILLS
This tape is loaded with drills and does not require any special tools or facilities.just what you learn from this fine coach and a group of ballplayers who want to have fun!
NOTE
The team of ballplayers who demonstrate these drills had never been exposed to these baserunning & sliding principles and were not previously taught by the Baylor coaches before the making of this DVD.
