Hitting Mechanics and Drills
[box cover description]
Mitch Thompson breaks down the mechanics of the swing into seven parts: bat selection, grip, stance, start, stride, swing, and finish. Thompson also explores the mental approach to hitting and explains ways to make hitting simple. He demonstrates drills using the hitting stick, dry swing drills, the side toss, the short toss, tees, and front toss drills.
Coach JP Says:
This guy understands the youth swing, its common mechanical flaws, the right corrections and teaching points. He does not assume anything and starts with the basics. This allows him to quickly get through any "entry-level detail" and move right into more of the good stuff within the first few minutes.
Thompson touches on the mental side, goes directly into grip & bat selection (a quick recap), then pulls you in with some powerful statements regarding:
1. Creating balance throughout the swing.
2. Eliminating unnecessary movement.
3. Getting a good pitch to hit.
4. Why you should swing down to the ball.
Coach Thompson hits all the major points dead on and does it with an easy-going style that any youth coach or player can understand. I found his drills to be creative, helpful and easy to do. anywhere. His hitters are lucky to have him as their hitting coach.
